MUSIC
Another great tradition at The Boathouse is our excellent musical talent! Many talented local musicians play at The Boathouse from March through October - seven nights a week, plus Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons. Our musicians play a variety of music: Current Hits, County, Jimmy Buffet covers, Jazz, Classic Rock, Beach Music and more! They also love to take requests from the audience and watch out - if you can sing, they'll drag you onstage and you just might find that you're the next Boathouse Idol!
We are certain that you will enjoy all of our performers. You might be surprised one evening - you just can't tell who might pop in: Jeff Cook from Alabama, Keith Urban, or Hal Aiken, among others, have each dropped by The Boathouse to play with the band!

Kelly Byrd has been with us for many years and does an outstanding job on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons beginning at four, and lasting until about eight. His smooth, melodious voice makes for easy listening at sunset on the harbor! Kelly will also play a little jazz and has a couple of CDs available to purchase. You will find that Kelly is gone every now and then, also playing for private parties, many of which were booked by people who enjoy him at the Boathouse! Many of the locals don't consider their weekend complete without hearing Kelly sing! |

Norris Mealer started playing and singing professionally at the age of 14 and has played everything from bluegrass to metal. Noted for his "finger-pickin" he performs a lot of classics by artists such as James Taylor, Van Morrison and the Beatles. He's always willing to try something new though and recently added selections from more current artists such as John Mayer and Jack Johnson. Not that he insists on doing covers since you will hear several original tunes penned by Norris on any given night, and why not, he did beat Lyle Lovett in a national songwriting competition way back in 1981. A bit of a computer geek, he ran a successful systems applications development firm for a few years, Norris has tried to utilize state of the art technology with his passion for music. He says that's the only way he can do justice to tunes by bands like the Rolling Stones or Little Feat as a solo performer. He incorporates a Variax modeling guitar system and a laptop computer loaded with studio quality backing tracks, many of which he recorded himself. Whether he is "finger-picking" his way solo through Steve Stills' "Treetop Flyer" with his guitar "modeling" a vintage Martin dreadnaught, or cranking out an overdriven crunch rhythm to the Stone's classic "Brown Sugar" while the laptop fills in the drums, bass and keyboards, you tend to notice a couple of things, (1) he knows what he's doing and (2) he's having a blast doing it. |
